Wedding rings for Belle and Toby
I still remember how nervous I was putting saw blade against silver for the very first time, and again few years later when I used gold for the first time. This time it was platinum for the first time and although I was so happy that Toby and Belle were back for wedding bands after I made the Engagement Ring for Belle, I have to say I was daunted when they told me that platinum was the choice for their wedding bands.
Platinum belongs to a different group of metals to those I had been familiar with, so I made a start by learning about their various properties, reading other jewellers’ experiences and collecting new tools. Using higher temperature flames to what I normally use, I made the rings by fusing the ends of wires shaped into circles. Belle’s ring was curved to fit the shape of the engagement ring.
I was delighted to be sent photographs from their wedding, both Toby and Belle wearing the rings with big smiles.
